Developing An Eye For Color
photographs and text by Jessica Ives
Every year I teach a multi-session color theory class at the Camden Rockport Middle School and it always rocks my socks off. I get so much great energy and spirit from these kids! They tackle college level challenges with such flexibility and curiosity, and learn a lot about craftsmanship and the changing nature of color along the way. Pictured here are a variety of works in progress toward our vibrating vs. vanishing edges challenge, and our illusion of transparency challenge. It’s great to play with color as we wait for late winter to turn into spring.

Do you ever teach color classes for adults? I haven’t played with color theory since college, and wow, that looks like a lot of fun!
I do, Jenn, I do! I’ve taught adult classes through the Farnsworth and through Sweet Tree Arts. I’ve finally put a package together that I can take on the road for workshops so if you have a favorite local arts center or organization that would like to host please put them in touch with me or shoot me an email to brainstorm!
