Hands, Heart & Head

porcelain vessels and text by Siem van der Ven

Bringing work to Unity this morning to set up the show. Looking forward to the opening Thursday.

These cups just came out of the kiln. They feel great.

Unity may seem a bit out of the way, but it'll be worth the trip.

It’s true. I love bread. But an artist does not live on bread alone. Your presence and kindness feed me as well.

Announcing two significant exhibitions:

The first opens today, Thursday, February 13th at the Unity College Center for the Performing Arts.  The show is called Roots and Branches: Works by Simon van der Ven and focuses on the origins and connections of my imagery and motifs. Special tools and explanatory text will be part of the display. Important note: The opening reception previously scheduled for tonight has been postponed due to the snowstorm. The reception has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 27th  from 5 to 7pm. Refreshments provided. The show continues through March 14. For more information click on the show title above.

The second exhibition opens Thursday, April 3rd at Perimeter Gallery in Belfast (within Chase’s Daily). This one is called From the Wrack Line and will be a gathering of mixed media work inspired by things I’ve found in the peripheral zone just above the high tide mark.  You’ve seen the seeds of it on these posts before. I’m really excited about this work and glad to have this opportunity to expand it into this show. The opening reception is Thursday, April 3, from 6 to 8pm. The exhibition continues through March 18.
