The Geography Of Youth

Recently I received a postcard from Wales. Did you know that there is a couple from Maine bicycling across the country WORLD interviewing and photographing 20-somethings from all walks of life? Mo and Alan, 20-somethings themselves, funded a large part of their brilliantly inspiring and ambitious project The Geography of Youth through Kickstarter. They also raised money and support through sponsorships, privatel donations, and grants. They have already been cycling for over a year and in the end they will accumulate over 30,000 miles! They have traveled from Alaska. all the way down through South America, and on to and through most of Europe. At the moment knee problems are forcing a month long break from cycling — and possibly, as one Facebook fan pointed out, a welcome respite from the wettest summer in recorded British history. Enjoy a few of Mo and Alan’s photos from their most recent rest stop in Wales here, and then click on over and like their Facebook page to show support and receive each beautiful postcard, update and interview from their unfolding adventure.

The Geography of Youth is a new project from Restless Collective, an umbrella for the joint projects of Alan Winslow and Morrigan McCarthy. The goal of The Geography of Youth is to promote global connections and understanding within the next generation by documenting through photography what life is like for hundreds of twenty-somethings around the world, and sharing their stories. Leaving in July 2011 from Fairbanks, Alaska, Morrigan and Alan will ride bicycles over 30,000 miles around the world, documenting through photographs, video, audio, and writing, the journey and the lives of twenty-somethings in over 50 countries. Their project and multimedia stories will be shared through digital postcards on the website,
