Below is the text of Ken’s final words to the members of the Megunticook Watershed Association.
In my 28 years of working with the Megunticook Watershed Association, I have learned many valuable lessons. I have learned how important a clean vibrant environment is to watershed residents and visitors alike. Without protection today there will be nothing left to protect in the future. Five generations of my family have enjoyed many recreational activities such as fishing, swimming and boating. It will take constant vigilance by today’s generation to preserve and maintain what we already have and to protect what future generations deserve. It is up to us to make sure the haunting cry of the loon, a swim in the cool clear waters and the tug of a fish at the end of a line are experienced by those who come after us. Please continue to protect and preserve all that makes the Megunticook Watershed a special place.Twenty-eight years ago I never would have believed that I was embarking on a career that involved working in one of the most wonderful environments…the Megunticook Watershed. To be able to share my love for nature and the Maine outdoors was a job made to order. The rewards and satisfaction that came with this position were well above my expectations. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer 4 1/2 years ago it has given me an even greater appreciation of the beauty that is the Watershed and of those who work so hard to protect it. I would like to thank the MWA membership, its board members and my family for their support.
