Tuesday 207

painting by Jessica Stammen

Pond Hockey, Players

Every Tuesday The Maine will post a new painting by Jessica Stammen. These small works, all 4 x 4 or 5 x 5 inches on cradled birchwood panels, will be concurrently listed for auction on dailypaintworks.com, a fantastic platform designed by artists, for artists. This week’s work has been pre-sold. It was spotted, still wet and in a cluster of other small works, in a photo of Jessica’s studio. We thought the painting still worthy of posting here; our apologies for any disappointment. Jessica promises to be more careful about leaking paintings in the future. You can view the closed auction by clicking here or by clicking on the image above.

About this painting: Pond Hockey season is a special time of year here in Maine. The days are short but when the sun is shining the light is incredibly stark and wonderful. There’s nothing like those deep blue shadows on the snow and ice, the voices and cheering of friends, and the satisfied exhaustion at the end of the day.
