Tuesday 207

painting by Jessica Ives

Into the day as by dream I swim
To the music of nourished meaning.
— Dejan Stojanovic

Rolling out of bed, only to slip immediately under the covers of Megunticook Lake for summer sunrise swims, my lingering dream state massaged by the motion of my body creates the possibility of a day like Stojanovic’s. In reality, however, I’m sure I swim — and live — a little more like a duck than a dreamer. We nourish our struggles with laughter, remembering not to take ourselves too seriously, remembering we are awake and alive.

I am a duck. I’m cool and calm on the surface,
but underneath it all is a nonstop struggle to succeed. My feet are like orange spatulas.

— Jarod Kintz
