Tuesday 207

painting by Jessica Stammen

Ellen, Morning Swim

About this painting: Exactly a year and one day ago today, thermometers topped out at 76 degrees and a friend and I went for a dazed and ecstatic mid-March swim in Megunticook Lake. Unheard of, clearly; just look out the window right now. A major snowstorm bears down on us today, March 19, 2013 — a storm expected to dump 8-12″ here in the midcoast. But tomorrow! Tomorrow is the first day of spring, the official day when I no longer need feel guilty about looking forward to summer. To celebrate, I am posting a swimmer painting! I can feel the beautiful morning miles, out and along the shore of Megunticook Lake in my body right now. When I can’t swim them, I paint from the memory of them.
